NOTE: You will need to be on the Shen-internet wireless network for this to work and it is currently only available in parts of HSE, HSW and Gowana

There are many apps and programs out there that allow you to control a desktop computer using an ipad or android tablet through a firewall. Perhaps the best (because it’s free) is one called teamviewer. What this whole class of programs allows is for you to wander the classroom while controlling or allowing the students to control what goes on the projector screen(via your teacher station) from the tablet. For this to work you simply install the app on your portable device, then install the client on your teacher station pc (available for http://www.teamviewer.com). When you startup the app it will ask you for partner’s ID and password. These can be found by clicking the teamviewer icon in your system tray (near the clock).

This allows you to use your projector, much as you would and interactive whiteboard by traversing the room and allowing students to use your mobile device to interact with the computer and screen. There is a bit of a manual dexterity learning curve, but once you’ve done that, collaborate brainstorming, annotating maps & worksheets, and pulling up websites on demand are all possibilities.

When you get proficient with this app you can even setup lists of computers you have connected to previously and maintain them in memory so you don’t have to re-enter the username and password.
